About the Project
New heritage markers were created for Kampong Gelam as part of an effort to conserve Singapore's heritage alongside Malay Heritage Foundation (Warisan SG) and D2 Architects. Participatory design process was implemented to collect and document personal stories and hidden voices of the many people who have called the place their home.
Over 200 memories were collected from the public at the Pop-Up Stories Market during Aliwal Arts Centre's Night Crawl on 19 August 2017. It was heartening to hear their personal anecdotes and the insights value-added to our research.
