Larry Yeung

Larry is a designer and community organizer who strongly advocates for a participatory and community-centric approach to the design and planning of cities and neighborhoods. With a background in architectural design and project management in Singapore, he is currently the Executive Director of Participate in Design (P!D).

Since earning his Master of Architecture from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Larry’s portfolio of participatory-based work has grown to encompass neighborhood planning, public space design, and community art installations. He has collaborated with grassroots organizations, educational institutions, civic groups, and government agencies. Larry's accolades include being recognized as a World Cities Summit Young Leader in 2021—an award that honors change-makers across diverse sectors who have helped shape the global urban agenda—and the NUS-CDE Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2023, which acknowledges alumni under 40 who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields.

Larry is also a recipient of the BCA-CPG Industrial Scholarship Award and the URA Urban Design Prize in 2014.

In addition to his work at P!D, Larry has been a member of the CSC-MCCY Partnerships and Engagement Experts Panel since November 2022, where he consults with public agencies in Singapore on their citizen and stakeholder engagement projects.

Yonathan Ong
Senior Associate (Design) aka “the People Urbanist”

Yonathan is a designer who strongly values Participatory methods in Urban Design. Having previously practiced urban design, architecture, and user experience both internationally and in Singapore, Yonathan is dedicated to bridging the gap between stakeholders and advocating for the community with his multi-disciplinary skillset.

Yonathan leverages data to translate agendas and ground aspirations into impactful solutions within the field of urban placemaking, striving to create purposeful designs that are also well-loved by the community.

Jan Lim
Co-founder, Director (Research & Strategy)

Jan is a researcher and practitioner working in the fields of participatory urban design/planning/governance. Her work explores the intersections between power structures, political systems, and the agency of ordinary citizens to influence spatial development trajectories. Jan was a PY Fellow under the Philip Yeo Innovation Fellows Programme, a World Cities Summit Young Leader, a Gen.T Leader of Tomorrow, and a member of the Salzburg Global Fellowship. She holds architecture degrees from the National University of Singapore and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at KU Leuven, Belgium.

Mizah Rahman (1986–2020)
In Loving Memory of our Co-founder aka “Our Girl Boss at P!D”

Mizah was a designer, community organizer, and strong advocate for a participatory and community-centric approach in the design and planning of cities and neighbourhoods. She was an Associate Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, School of Design and Environment, and previously a researcher at the National University of Singapore’s Centre for Sustainable Asian Cities. Since the thesis for her Masters of Architecture at the National University of Singapore, Mizah’s portfolio of participatory-based works expanded to include neighbourhood planning, public space design, and community art installations; working in partnership with grassroots organisations, educational institutions, civic groups and government agencies. Her standing in the participatory design field saw her being invited to present at various local and international platforms including the New Cities Summit 2017, Asian Pacific Urban Youth Assembly organized by UN-Habitat, TedXBondUniversity and World Architecture Festival. She was a finalist in the Makers of More Challenge by Ashoka Changemakers, in 2015 and was nominated as a World Cities Summit Young Leader in 2018. She also sat on the Singapore Heritage Society Exco Board.

Mizah passed away in 2020 after a brave fight against cancer. Her strength and kindness will always be fondly remembered, and her love for designing with communities continues to live on in the work that P!D does.

Sarah Ichioka

Founding Director
Desire Lines

Sarah Ichioka is an urbanist, strategist, curator and writer. She leads Desire Lines, a strategic consultancy for environmental, cultural, and social-impact organizations and initiatives. She is co-author of Flourish: Design Paradigms for Our Planetary Emergency, with Michael Pawlyn (2021). In previous roles, she has explored the intersections of cities, society and ecology within leading international institutions of culture, policy and research, including as Director of The Architecture Foundation (UK) and Co-Director of the London Festival of Architecture. Sarah has been recognised as a World Cities Summit Young Leader, one of the Global Public Interest Design 100, a British Council / Clore Duffield Cultural Leadership International Fellow, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. She holds degrees from Yale and the LSE.

Trent Ng

Trent graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (2nd Class (Upper Division) Honours) from the National University of Singapore and a Master in Public Policy (Valedictorian) from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in 2015, and is a practicing Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Trent started his legal practice advising and representing corporations, investment funds, distressed companies, and insolvency practitioners in a boutique corporate insolvency, restructuring and dispute resolution law firm. Outside legal practice, Trent currently serves on the board of directors of Care Corner Senior Services (a social services charity) and spends his weekends fellowshipping in and serving in the Children and Music Ministry of his church. He also enjoys reading current affairs, cooking, and travelling.

Yvonne Li

Founder & Managing Director
Tate Anzur

A strong believer in the power of genuine communications and a passion to do meaningful work led to the founding of Tate Anzur in 2011. A decade later, she co-founded Tate Labs, offering digital content strategy and marketing services to provide a full suite of integrated communications solutions for businesses today. Beyond providing strategic counsel and overseeing the successful execution of publicity campaigns, her knack lies in her ability to guide businesses in developing impactful and measurable initiatives that are successful for the organisation and good for the larger society. 

Other than Participate in Design, Yvonne also plays an advisory role to other non-profit organisations such as Objectifs and SAtheCollective, and makes time mentoring young PR practitioners. 

Lee Li Fang (Pictured centre)

Li Fang is an analyst with a strong passion in developing the community’s interest and potential to build up their own environments. Inspired by the extent of public responsibility in Swiss cities, she believes that public participation creates a more equitable and loved environment for many. She enjoys using her professional skills to provide data supported analysis for the design community. During her free time, she delights in being involved with community engagement projects with Participate in Design and also does exciting craft programmes and hands-on land building and maintenance activities with Ground-Up Initiative to keep a grounded connection to the Earth.

Jarrod Choo (Pictured centre)

Jarrod is a Master in Public Policy candidate at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, with a strong interest urban and social policy. He has been volunteering with P!D since October 2017. A former student of sociology, Jarrod believes that community participation is vital for well-designed urban spaces and social programs, and for giving residents a greater sense of ownership in the development of liveable cities. He has also embarked on research and projects around social entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and design thinking. Outside of school, Jarrod spends time seeking out new additions to his (unhealthily large) collection of floral shirts.

Fellow (2021)

As a Health Policy Analyst in Ministry of Health’s Behavioural Insights Unit, Keerthana is part of an innovative team seeking to understand and nudge behaviours so as to design more effective, evidence-based health policies and processes. She is also an advocate for a community and participatory approach towards effective and citizen centric policy design. Given her passion and interest in the area of research and designing for social impact, this fellowship programme gives Keerthana the privilege and opportunity to work closely together with communities, brainstorm innovative solutions to address challenges and perform research groundwork to better understand the needs and challenges of communities. 

Darian Tan (Pictured left)

Fellow (2021)

Having trained in geography, Darian makes sense of the world through its spaces and the societies (hidden or otherwise) that occupy it. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2018. Through his training, he developed a keen interest revolving society, digitality, and space. Ultimately, this interest culminated in a dissertation on geolocative applications. In 2015, he was also awarded the Media Education Scholarship (MES) by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, Singapore. He is now designing K-12 educational products as a Digital Solutions Strategist.

Zhuo Hui is a graphic designer who is passionate about design thinking and social design. She sees design as an effective agent for social change as it is both humble in its user-centred approach and powerful in its ability to radically rethink our everyday spaces and routines. For her BFA (Visual Communication) thesis project, she created a design thinking workshop for children from lower-income families to guide them in transforming their ideas into creative projects. Similarly, she believes that communities can offer valuable perspectives to the design of their public spaces, and aims to make co-creation even more fun and meaningful by innovating new community-engagement methods.

Marilyn See

Research Fellow (2024)

Marilyn is a recent graduate of Public Policy and Global Affairs (NTU), with a strong interest in urban planning, placemaking, and participatory design. She is passionate about creating vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive urban spaces that are accessible and enjoyable for people from all walks of life. Committed to amplifying underrepresented voices, Marilyn is excited about the potential of participatory design to transform public spaces. She has also undertaken research projects studying perceptions of healthcare policies and public spaces. In her free time, Marilyn finds inspiration in urban sketching around Singapore.
